Township Keeps Levy Level

Wheeling Township approved a proposed levy, accepted a bid for a new sign, and began discussions about a new Freedom of Information Act policy at a township board meeting on Nov. 24.

The levy for 2009 will be adopted at the township's next meeting. "It looks like it's just about even," said Jo Stellato, township administrator. The levy increased with the Consumer Price Index, 0.1%. "It made the difference of about three or four hundred dollars on each level," Stellato said.

The projected levy for the general or town fund is $2,372,700. The levy for general assistance is $561,960 and the levy for the road district is $749,280.

The township also accepted a bid from Workmasters in Des Plaines for a new sign for the the township hall in Arlington Hts. The existing sign is made of wood and is 34 years old. Township trustees agreed to a design for a new sign on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The agreed price for the sign is $38,000.

Trustees also considered work on the building's columns but chose to defer that project.

Finally, they discussed changes in Illinois' Freedom of Information Law and how it affects the township.

"We want to have a written policy," Stellato said. Trustees will continue that discussion and take needed actions at a future meeting.

Wheeling Township includes parts of Prospect Hts., Wheeling, Arlington Hts., Mt. Prospect, Buffalo Grove, and small portions of Des Plaines, Northbrook, and Rolling Meadows.
