Wheeling, Buffalo Grove Students To Head Overseas
Township High School Dist. 214 board members recently approved a trip to Italy for Wheeling High School students.
A tour is being planned for students who are studying the Italian language and culture to visit Venice, Montecatini, Sorrento, and Rome, Mar. 18-27, 2010. The purpose of this trip is for students to practice their skills and be completely immersed into the Italian culture. Students will visit the Colosseum, the Vatican Museum, Pompeii, and St. Mark's Square. Students will also learn what life was like during he Roman Empire, as well as gain an overview of contemporary Italian society.
Also, students in Buffalo Grove High School's Band, Orchestra, and Choir will participate in a foreign exchange visit with their sister school Landstrasser Gymnasium in Vienna, Austria. They are expected to visit Austria, Czechoslovakia, Germany and Italy, Mar. 16-28, 2010.
This exchange program began in 1990 and will be the ninth trip to Europe for both the band and orchestra.
The students are scheduled to perform in Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Venice, Munich, and Kitzbuhel. During the trip, students will be living with families in Vienna, which according to district officials, will give them insight into the similarities and differences in cultures.
