Wheeling Superdawg Taking Shape

The Wheeling Superdawg is taking more steps toward its November opening.

"We are moving right along," explained Laura Berman. Berman is part of the third generation of her family to run the original Superdawg at the corners of Milwaukee, Devon, and Nagle avenues in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago. She will run the Wheeling restaurant when it opens.

"There's a roof, and there are walls going up," she said.

The Wheeling Plan Commission approved the business' canopies and canopy signage at its meeting on Aug. 13. "There was no problem at all," Berman said of that approval. "They said, 'We're happy to have you.'"

Berman said the iconic hot dogs, replicating the original ones at the Norwood Park roof, are not yet installed, but will be coming soon.

The Wheeling Village Board approved plans for the restaurant in April of 2008. It will be located at 335 S. Milwaukee Ave.
