Dad Grabs Suspect After Daughter Allegedly Robbed
A robbery victim's father tracked down and held an alleged suspect until police arrived in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 27.
A 22-year-old woman was walking in the 100 block of East Slade Street in Palatine at 4:35 a.m. She was talking to her mother on her cellular telephone when Efrain Juarez, 24, of 145 E. Palatine Rd. #1B, Palatine, allegedly ran up from behind and grabbed her purse.
Police said the woman screamed, drawing the attention of her father who was inside a nearby home. He saw Juarez allegedly pull his daughter to the ground, drag her several feet, and then run off with her purse.
The father got into his car and chased Juarez while his daughter called 911, according to police. The father managed to stop Juarez about a block away and detain him until police arrived. Juarez allegedly later gave verbal and written statements admitting his involvement in the incident.
Police charged him with felony robbery as well as misdemeanor charges of battery and possession of cannabis. He was given an $80,000 bond and faces a court date of July 28.
