Free To Celebrate July 4th!
Here's what's on tap for July 4th weekend in the Journal's Northwest suburban coverage area:
Arlington Hts.
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 10 a.m., beginning at the corner of Dunton and Oakton streets. South on Dunton to Miner, east on Miner to Recreation Park.
Fireworks: Friday, July 3, Arlington Park ($5 entrance fee)
Frontier Days: Continues through Sunday at Recreation Park
Buffalo Grove
Fireworks: Saturday, July 4, Rotary Village Green. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band concert begins at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks around 9:15 p.m.
Des Plaines
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 10 a.m. Begins at Center and Oakton streets. North on Center to Prairie, east on Prairie to Pearson. Ice cream social follows at the Des Plaines History Center.
Fireworks: Festivities kick-off at 4 p.m. at Oakton Community College, followed by fireworks at dusk.
Elk Grove Village
Fireworks: Saturday, July 4, Lions Park, 9 p.m. Elk Grove Brass Band performance begins at 8 p.m.
Glenview
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 11 a.m. (following kids bike parade at 10:30 a.m.) Begins at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Glenview Road, west to Harlem, south on Harlem to Central, west on Central to Johns Park.
Fireworks: July 4, Glenview Park Golf Club. North Shore Concert Band performance begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by fireworks display at 9 p.m.
Mt. Prospect
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 1 p.m., beginning at Emerson Street and Prospect Avenue, northwest on Prospect to Central Road, west on Central to Melas Park
Fireworks: July 4, dusk, at Melas Park held as part of 71st annual Lions Club festival.
Niles
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 9 a.m., beginning at Notre Dame College Prep, south on Ozark to Main, east on Main to Harlem, south on Harlem to Monroe, west on Monroe to Grennan Hts. Park.
Palatine
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 10 a.m., beginning on Slade Street, east to Brockway, north on Brockway to Wood, east on Wood to Oak St.
Fireworks: Friday, July 3, Community Park
Hometown Fest festival: Continues through Sunday at Community Park
Park Ridge
Fireworks: Friday, July 3, Maine East High School. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with childrens games. Park Ridge Fine Arts Orchestra provides live music performance up until fireworks at dusk.
Parade: A kiddie bike parade will be held at 9 a.m. in the Uptown area near City Hall.
Prospect Hts.
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 9 a.m., beginning at Palwaukee Plaza (Milwaukee & Palatine). Proceeds west on Apple Drive to Piper Lane, west to Wolf Road, south on Wolf to Old Willow, east on Old Willow to Mandel Lane, south on Mandel to Camp McDonald, west on Camp McDonald to Wheeling Road, north on Wheeling to Willow, west on Willow to Schoenbeck, north on Schoenbeck to Hebron Presbyterian Church.
Rolling Meadows
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 11:30 a.m., beginning at the corner of Barker Lane and Central Road. Central to Owl, north to Kirchoff, east to Plaza Lane.
Family Walk/Bike in the Park: July 4, 1-4 p.m., Salk Park.
Fireworks: July 4, 9:30 p.m., Salk Park
Wheeling
Parade: Saturday, July 4, 7:30 p.m., on Dundee Road between Northgate and Wolf to Heritage Park.
Fireworks: July 4, 9:15 p.m., Heritage Park (behind Village Hall)
