3-Year Sentence In String of Burglaries

A Wheeling man received a sentence of three years after pleading guilty to four counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary.

David Martinez, 25, of 137 Wheeling Ave., recently pled guilty in the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows. Police apprehended him at 9:15 p.m. Mar. 24 after finding him atop the roof of a retail business at 82 E. Dundee Rd. Officers responded to the scene for a report of suspicious noises on the roof.

During questioning, Martinez admitted to burglarizing four other businesses in the town. He took a laptop computer and cash from a business at 98 E. Dundee Rd. on Mar. 9, phone cards and cash from one at 26 W. Dundee Rd. on Mar. 13, and cash from two stores at 542 W. Dundee Rd. on Mar. 16. In each case, Martinez entered the business from the roof. At 542 Dundee, he entered the second store by breaking through the wall between them, police said.
