Towns Team Up To Improve Streetlight Situation
New streetlights may be coming to Algonquin Road thanks to a joint effort by Rolling Meadows and Arlington Hts.
Rolling Meadows City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement between the two towns to split the cost of design engineering for the project. The total engineering services are currently proposed to be $68,656.
Improvements include installation of new street lighting along Algonquin Road, between Magnolia Drive and Arlington Hts. Road, both where no lighting exists and where existing lighting systems have become unreliable to operate. The proposed new street lighting also extends along Golf Road, between Arlington Hts. Road and the traffic signal west of Meijer Drive, and on New Wilke Road between Algonquin Road and Golf Road.
The construction phase of the project is estimated at $2.5 million. It is eligible for federal funding and has already been programmed as a 2010 Surface Transportation Program improvement. The city believes federal economic stimulus funding will likely be available in 2010 that would pay 100% of the project. If that funding does not become available, the Surface Transportation Program would pay 70% of the construction costs.
The agreement calls for each municipality to pay half the price.
