Frontier Fun Awaits
5-Day Bash Begins Wednesday
Frontier Days in Arlington Hts. always has been billed as a historical happening, a step back into a cultural yesteryear.
This year's lineup of musical entertainment adds to this tradition, and cuts across many varieties of musical tastes.
The July 1-5 festival at Recreation Park features popular local favorite Eddie Money, the Kentucky Headhunters, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, American English, and Blues Traveler, on the main stage.
Festival Committee President Donna Jonas said the bands were selected to appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes in the community.
All these bands perform at 8 p.m. each of the five days. Starting things off on Wednesday, July 1, are the Headhunters. Blues Traveler performs Thursday, Money is on tap for Friday, Cherry Poppin' Daddies is slated for Saturday, and American English winds up the festival's main stage entertainment on Sunday, July 5.
The Headhunters style is described as appealing to both country and rock fans. Money is billed as a singing legend with a distinctive voice.
The Cherry Poppin' group offers unconventional tunes that mix punk rock, swing, and funk music. Show organizers describe American English as a popular Beatles tribute band.
Other bands that will perform on the Frontier Stage and Stage West include Audio Daydream, the Eagles tribute band Heartache Tonight, Chicago band ARRA, female pop band Catfight, national Slide Guitar Champion Kraig Kenning, Lounge Puppets, Kevin Purcell and the Night Burners, Afrodisiacs, Band Heartsfield, and the Harper College Steel Drum Band.
The festival also includes the Taste of Arlington with fare from local restaurants, many food options in the main pavilion all five days, a beer garden, a wine vineyard, carnival rides, games for all ages, an array of exhibits, athletic competition, and the July 4 parade from Dunton and Oakton to Recreation Park.
