Village OKs Stormwater Agreements

Buffalo Grove officials recently approved two intergovernmental agreements with the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission regarding future work on two separate waterways.

The first agreement relates to funding assistance for Phase 3 of the Buffalo Creek Streambank Stabilization Project.

The village is embarking on a multi-phase project to restore Buffalo Creek. In this third phase, stabilization methods include a rock toe (log protection) and native plantings. Additionally, the creek's banks will be become flatter.

Cost for the entire project totals $85,000, with terms of the agreement being valid through Nov. 30, 2010.

The second agreement consists of funding assistance for the Aptakisic Creek Streambank Stabilization Project.

The project includes streambank stabilization of approximately 300 ft. near Thompson Blvd and approximately 150 ft. near Weiland Rd. This project is part of the Aptakisic Creek Maintenance Plan and includes planting of native species, sloping the stream banks back and removal of invasive species.

Cost for the entire project totals approximately $70,000, with terms of the agreement valid through Nov. 30, 2010.
