Blood Drive July 8 At Fire House

The village of Wheeling and the Wheeling Board of Health will host a blood drive at the fire station on Dundee Road adjacent to Village Hall.

The drive will be Wednesday, July 8, from 1:30 to 7 p.m. in association with LifeSource, Chicagoland's Blood Center.

Donors can make appointments by calling Beverly Slaby at 847-499-9045 or e-mail her at bslaby@wheelingil.gov. Appointments are requested, but walk-ins are welcome.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and must not have donated blood within the previous eight weeks. LifeSource encourages donors to eat a substantial meal and drink extra liquids before their donation time.

LifeSource will be providing a new automated procedure that offers donors a unique way to donate red blood cells by using the ALYX machine. All donors interested in donating on the ALYX must have a higher level of iron than is needed for a whole blood donation. The procedure will take 15 minutes longer than a normal donation.
