UPS Fire Ruled Accidental

The fire at Palatine's UPS shipping facility, 2100 N. Hicks Rd. on Thursday May 28 was ruled accidental.

Fire Capt. Doug Hoyt did not have further information about the cause of the blaze that began just after 9:30 p.m., resulting in minor structural damage and no injuries. Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke from several truck docks on the east side of the building. It extended to one semi trailer and into the building through an open truck dock overhead door.

All occupants of the building evacuated safely without assistance from the fire department. The fire was declared under control at 9:54 p.m. with damage contained to the exterior of the building and the trailer that was involved. Hoyt did not have an estimate of the damage.
