Garage Sale Fundraisers Eye Downtown Deck

Two community-wide garage sales will set up shop in Palatine's downtown parking deck this summer.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus of St. Theresa Church will use the Gateway Center parking facility for a community garage sale on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise funds for the church and other charitable works.

According to Denise Ciciora, co-chairperson for the event, there will be 50 spaces allotted on the lower level for the sale.

"Last year, we raised and donated $2,500 and our council was voted number one in the state," said Ciciora.

On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Palatine Jaycees will host a community garage sale at the same location from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chairperson Kate McNally said the Jaycees have done this for many years and anticipates 30-50 vendors to participate.

The Jaycees will charge per spot, but tables are not included at this time, McNally said. She added the Jaycees are looking into possibly getting tables for the sale.

Proceeds will benefit the Palatine Jaycees Administrative Fund.

"It's nice to see people are wanting to use the parking deck garage, and it gets people to the downtown area," said Village Manager Reid Ottesen.
