Japanese Culture Festival Returns To Forest View

Japanese music, dance, martial arts, culture and Anime will highlight the 28th annual Japan Festival, set for June 13-14 at Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Hts.

This year's fest is also scheduled to feature a special presentation on "Kyudo" (Japanese archery) and a bow making demonstration by Master Bowmaker Kanjuro Shibata XXI from Japan. Shibata is twenty first in a line of master bowmakers.

The Festival is presented by the Mid America Japanese Club (MAJC) in partnership with District 214 Community Education. The fest runs from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Festival features include:

* Two entertainment stages - Koto, Shinobue, Okinawa Taiko Drums and dances, choirs, Japanese folk dances, Chano-Yu (tea ceremony, 11 a.m.), martial arts, Aikido, Judo and more.

* Culture Exhibition Hall - Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangements), Miyuki art flowers and Katana (Japanese swords)

* "Taste of Japan" features Sushi, Chicken Teriyaki and more.

* Market Place (Arts and Crafts) - hand crafts, cards, Japanese books, fabric crafts and Kimono.

Information tables will also be presented by travel agents and other Japanese organizations. Admission is free.
