Jewish School Seeks Village's OK To Open
By RICHARD MAYER Assistant Managing Editor
A Jewish day school is awaiting approval from Buffalo Grove officials to operate out of Congregation Beth Am, 225 N. McHenry Rd.
The day school, Torah Academy of Buffalo Grove, is expected to open for the upcoming school year by Sept. 2. It will provide general studies education for Jewish children of all backgrounds.
According to Rabbi Shimon Zehnwirth, the school's principal, the academy's inaugural year will welcome 25-30 children, ages 3-6, in 3-4 existing classrooms. Zehnwirth said there will be a teacher and an assistant in every room.
"We selected Beth Am because it's centrally located and convenient for many parents," said Zehnwirth. "Also, the people at Beth Am are incredibly nice to work with."
Classes will be held Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be early and late classes for those who need more time, in addition to half-day options. Zehnwirth said it all depends on what the parents and/or child needs.
Plans are expected to be presented to the Buffalo Grove Plan Commission today (Wednesday). If approved, the proposal will be presented to the village board for final approval on Monday, June 15.
