Wheeling Man Dies In Palatine Rd. Crash

Police say a 28-year-old Prospect Hts. man lost control of his car and crashed shortly before midnight Wednesday, May 20, killing one occupant and hospitalizing himself and two other passengers.

Wheeling resident Jose Antonio Guzman Ojeda, 26, died on impact when a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Prospect Hts. resident Gerardo Torres-Salas, struck a tree along Palatine Road just east of Rand Road at about 11:30 p.m., Arlington Hts. Police Cmdr. Andrew Whowell told the Journal.

Also injured and transported to area hospitals in serious, stable condition were an unidentified 26-year-old Wheeling man and another unidentified Prospect Hts. man. Police said that Prospect Hts. man's age has not been determined and his name was not released. He was transported to Lutheran General Hospital while the other injured passenger and driver were transported to Northwest Community Hospital.

Police ruled out the use of alcohol or drugs and are continuing their investigation. Police are asking any witnesses of the accident to contact investigators.
