Make-A-Wish Child Becomes Cop For Day

"Make-A-Wish" child and Buffalo Grove resident George Marijan, 7, was presented Wednesday, Nov. 12, with a service award from the Village of Buffalo Grove.

Marijan recently had the opportunity to spend time with the Buffalo Grove Police Dept. where he received police training, played detective and "captured" criminals in a day that was full of action and surprises.

Marijan has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and wished to be a policeman for a day.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation reached out to the Buffalo Grove Police Dept. for help in granting Marijan's wish and when all was said and done, more than 50 volunteers from Buffalo Grove's police and fire departments, regional SWAT team members, two K-9 units and a local business had all been involved in making his day special.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy.

The foundation is able to grant wishes through contributions of individual, community, and corporate donors that provide financial support, in-kind gifts of goods and services, and volunteer their time and talents.
