Teen Charged In Multiple Burglaries

Buffalo Grove police recently arrested a 17-year-old male from Deerfield for allegedly breaking into numerous motor vehicles.

According to police, during the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 18, police responded to the 1200 block of E. Deerfield Pkwy. in the Wheatlands Apartment complex for the report of an individual looking into vehicles and trying to open vehicle doors.

When officers arrived, they located numerous vehicles in the parking lot with broken windows. With the assistance of the Riverwoods and Lincolnshire Police Departments, along with the Lake County Sheriffs Police, a perimeter was set up.

A Buffalo Grove Police officer located an individual riding a bicycle in the area that matched the description of the person that had been seen earlier near the vehicles. A short time later, the teenager was taken into custody.

Police said the 17-year-old had a car stereo faceplate in his pocket from one of the victim's vehicles.

According to police, a total of 11 vehicles were broken into. Some were entered after breaking a window, and some did not sustain damage because they were unlocked.

The Deerfield teenager was charged with seven counts of burglary, three counts of attempted burglary, and six counts of criminal damage to property.

He was taken to the Lake County courthouse in Waukegan for bond hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Bond was set at $5,000. He is expected to appear back in a Lake County courtroom on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
