Wheeling Approves Repairs To Dundee Pedestrian Bridge

Wheeling trustees on Monday, Aug. 11, approved two of three proposed contracts for repair of the pedestrian bridge over Dundee Road.

Public Works Director Tony Stavros pulled the contract for R. H. Ward and Associates, Inc. for the concrete repairs. "There were some changes to it and I have to meet with the contractor again and renegotiate," he explained. He plans that meeting on Thursday, Aug. 14. The board approved a contract with Allied Waterproofing, Inc., for coating repairs not to exceed $31,000 and one with Leroy's Welding and Fabrication for handrail repairs not to exceed $24,000.

The village waived competitive bidding for all three contracts to expedite the repairs. "School's starting and right now the bridge is closed," Stavros explained. The original contractor for the bridge went out of business since its opening, he said. "We went out and got specialists. This is what they do."
