School Dist. 214 Ready In Case of Emergency
Township High School Dist. 214 board members last week approved a Standardized Crisis Plan by signing the document in case of a future emergency.
Officials hope the plan, when used properly and updated annually, will assist school administrators throughout the district in accomplishing one of their primary responsibilities: protecting the lives and property of students and staff.
All community police and fire departments serving Dist. 214 and its schools have helped to develop, as well as adopted the Standardized Crisis Plan.
In 2004, the Mt. Prospect Safe Schools Committee, comprised of superintendents, principals, school/district crisis members, and emergency response personnel, applied for an Emergency Response and Crisis Management Grant from the federal government and was awarded $225,000. The grant was to be used to improve and strengthen the school crisis plans and overall response to emergencies with assistance from the local police and fire officials.
Three years later, representatives of the committee, in conjunction with the Mt. Prospect police and fire departments, developed a comprehensive Standardized Crisis Plan to enhance emergency response capabilities for all schools.
In other Dist. 214 news:
Board members approved two separate bids totaling $46,696 to replace the indoor gym scoreboard at Rolling Meadows High School and the outdoor football scoreboard at Wheeling High School.
Both scoreboards are approximately 16 years old and are no longer reliable, district officials say. The RMHS scoreboard will be funded entirely by Booster donations. The outdoor scoreboard for Wheeling will be funded by a Booster donation of $8,500 and student activity accounts.
