Bike Wipeout Survivors: Step Right Up
Buffalo Grove Police are seeking bicycle and motorcycle riders who have survived a crash due to wearing a seatbelt or helmet.
The police department wants to honor and recognize those individuals and present them to the Village Board on Monday, May 19.
According to Sgt. Scott Kristiansen, every year for the past 15-20 years, the police department participates in Bike Safety Awareness Month in May.
Kristiansen said that the Buffalo Grove Police Dept. is one of only a few local departments that assists individuals with personal fitting bike helmets.
He said it's a "great opportunity" for a family to go out bike riding one day and stop by the police department to make sure their helmets are on right.
"Crashes are considerably down in the village, and volume has increased dramatically since 1990. That's pretty amazing and a great accomplishment," said Kristiansen.
