The Polish Women's Civic Club invites the public to its annual Palm Sunday Luncheon at Avalon Banquets, 1905 East Higgins Rd., Elk Grove Village, on Sunday, Mar. 16. Cocktails begin at 12 p.m., and lunch at 1 p.m. A cash bar will be available. Immediately following the luncheon, a large gift basket raffle will take place. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring children and grandchildren. There is a special menu for children; and, each child will take home a complimentary Easter basket. Elk Grove Village Jaycees are hosting their 48th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, Mar. 15 at Lindbergh Park. "Les Bavards du Nord", a monthly francophone lunch group, will meet again on Saturday, Mar. 15, at 1 p.m., for lunch and conversation in French at a Buffalo Grove-area restaurant to be announced later via e-mail. he March meeting of the Northwest Suburban Astronomers will feature a presentation by NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador Jim Kovac, "Mars Missions and Mysteries." In this presentation, follow the journey of the Mars Exploration Rovers, compare Earth with this neighboring world, view its massive geological features, and discuss some recent discoveries and intriguing mysteries of the "Red Planet." The Arlington Camera Club meets at 7:30 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month, September-June. Meetings are held at the Arlington Historical Society, 110 W. The St. Columbkille Alumnae Association will sponsor its annual reunion luncheon on Sunday, Apr. 6 at the Fountain Blue, 2300 S. Mannheim Rd., Des Plaines. Catholic Charities North/Northwest Suburban Services presents "Passport To Hope!" Chaired by Sandra Yates of Rolling Meadows, the 19th Annual "Hearts for Homeless Families Dinner and Auction," a fundraising event for Des Plaines-based Catholic Charities' North/Northwest Suburban Shelter Program's New Hope Apartments, will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 15, at Stonegate Conference & Banquet Centre, 2401 W. Higgins Rd. in Hoffman Estates. Valet parking will be available. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception, hors d'oeuvres and silent auction followed by a four-course dinner with wine and a live auction. Holy Week Worship Schedule for Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights: For Palm Sunday Weekend there will be worship services on Saturday, Mar. 15 at 5 p.m. and on Sunday traditional worship will take place at 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Contemporary worship will take place at 9 and 10:30 a.m. On Mar. 20, Maundy Thursday, there will be a 12 noon Table Fellowship communion and at 7:30 p.m., Holy Communion worship with the adult choir. Crosswalks will take place on Good Friday, Mar. 21 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. At 12:00 noon and 7:30 p.m., "The Seven Last Words of Christ" will take place with a service of music and scripture featuring the Chicago Sinfonietta string quartet. There will be a 5 p.m. Service of Lessons and Holy Communion on Holy Saturday, Mar. 22. Elk Grove Baptist Church, 801 Beisner Road, Elk Grove Village, invites area seniors to its Senior Luncheons, held the 3rd Friday of every other month at 11:30 a.m. Bring a dish to share if you like, and meet new friends while you enjoy good conversation and fellowship. Juliette Low Elementary School's PTO is sponsoring a Fun Fair tomorrow (Friday) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the school. The Fun Fair will have games and over 70-raffle prizes worth over $1,000. In addition, pizza will be offered along with drinks and other treats. The school is located at 1530 Highland Ave., Arlington Hts.
Due to funding made available to Dist. 214's Arts Unlimited, John Hersey High School will host a performance by the internationally acclaimed Trinity Irish Dancers on St. Patrick's Day, Monday, Mar. 17, at 2 p.m. For nearly a quarter-century, the Trinity Irish Dancers have entertained audiences. Capturing world titles, the group has been invited to perform on numerous TV programs. A limited number of seats are available for the 20-30 minute free program at Hersey.
Buffalo Grove High School's Blue Crew and Junior Class Board will present their annual Prom Fashion Show on Wednesday, Mar. 19 at 7:45 p.m. in the school theater. According to school officials, male and female student models, will display the "hottest" new fashions for Prom and Spring Break, including hairstyles and makeup. A silent auction will also be conducted with numerous items and gifts certificates donated. Attendees will be required to pay a fee at the door, but all proceeds will be applied to the BGHS Senior Breakfast on Thursday, May. 29.
MTV's "Rock The Vote" drive, featuring alums from the hit shows "Real World" and "Road Rules", will visit Harper's Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 19. Road Rules veteran Rachel Robinson and Real World star Alton Williams will host a free, non-partisan discussion on the potential impact of the 18- to 24-year-old vote and the importance of registering to vote. In conjunction, Harper student clubs and organizations are sponsoring a voter registration drive across campus through Mar. 20. The Rock the Vote initiative aims to get 20 million young adults to the polls for the upcoming national election. "I think more students are galvanized about the upcoming election," said Michael Harkins, a Harper associate professor who teaches history. "Hats off to the students." Doors to the Performing Arts Center open at 1 p.m.
