Repeal Palatine Smoking Ban?

Restaurant and bar owners in Palatine presented Village Council members a petition Monday night, requesting that a smoking ban ordinance to be repealed.

The ruling prohibits smoking in all public places and places of employment and to guarantee the right of non-smokers to breathe smoke-free air.

Assistant Village Manager Sam Trackas said residents and owners are invited to a hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 20 to discuss revoking the ordinance, but that no voting on the proposal will take place at that time.

Some businesses have complained that since the ban began on Jan. 2, revenue to the village has been lost due to patrons staying away and patronizing other establishments outside Palatine.
