King's Players Youth Theatre Group Gets 'Footloose'

The King's Players, a community youth theatre group in their fifth year of operation, is now in rehearsal for their upcoming production of "Footloose."

The show will be presented at the Forest View Educational Center Theatre, 2121 S. Goebbert Rd., in Arlington Hts. Dates and times are: July 28, 29, 30 at 7:30 p.m. and July 31, a 1:30 p.m. matinee.

"Footloose" is the story of how one young man can be a catalyst for change. When Ren McCormack and his mother, Ethel, pack their bags and move from Chicago to Bomont, the repercussions are felt throughout the Bomont community. Ren, a disillusioned young man, is hoping to make new friends and to find new places to dance. The teens of Bomont, however, are not allowed to dance due to an edict by the controlling Rev. Shaw Moore. Ren meets some of these interesting characters who inhabit the town, Willard, Rusty and Chuck, but when Ren falls for the Reverend's rebellious daughter, Ariel, sparks fly. Ren and the teens take the fight to be free to dance to the town hall where they are sounded defeated. When Ren confronts the Rev. Moore in a final plea for the rights of normal teenagers, Rev. Moore searches his soul for the correct answer. In an explosive finale of music and dancing, the community is brought back together through the healing powers of love.

Tickets are being sold through Dist. 214 Community Education Center, 847-718-7700 for information.
