History may be made tonight (Friday) in Maine West's girls basketball program, which already owns one of the state's richest historical traditions.

Elk Grove Begins State Title Defense

If you've noticed that cheerleading squads at area high schools are especially sharp or showing off new routines recently, there's a reason. The IHSA's 5th annual state cheerleading tournament series begins this Saturday, with five sectionals. Area teams could play prominent roles. Elk Grove is the defending state champion in the coed division, and Palatine finished fifth in this division last year. Conant was fourth in the large squad division, and Maine East also won statewide honors a few years ago in the coed division.
