Wheeling Can Lock Up Title

By BOBBY CHILVER Journal Sports

Wheeling girls basketball appears to have done it again.

Using thrilling comebacks over Hersey and Elk Grove this month, Wheeling has taken control of the MSL-East and can win their third straight division title tonight against Rolling Meadows.

Here's a look at the games (note all games will tip off at 6:30 p.m. as the girls play prior to boys varsity action):

Rolling Meadows at Wheeling

The Lady Wildcats have sure made it exciting for their fans in the past few weeks, coming out slow but rallying back for huge comeback wins over Hersey, Prospect and Elk Grove.

On Tuesday, Wheeling avenged their loss to Buffalo Grove with an easy 70-44 win behind 22 points from Janelle Cannon and 20 more from Bianca Szafarowicz. Tonight. Wheeling gets an improving Rolling Meadows team but one they should handle on their way to the MSL-East championship.

Hersey at Elk Grove

This will likely be a battle for second place but if by chance Wheeling were to lose, it would be for a share of the MSL-East title. Elk Grove won Tuesday behind 26 points from Ashley Capotosto. Fellow standout forward Courtney Lindfors didn't play due a foot injury and her status could have a big affect on how tonight's game plays out.

Hersey fell for the second time to Prospect as Megan Rogowski was limited to just six points.

Prospect at Buffalo Grove

Both of these teams have had their ups and downs this season.

The Knights seem to have Hersey's number as Lexi Glennon's 16 points and tough defense on Rogowski keyed their 44-33 win Tuesday.

The Bison fell to Wheeling but have been competitive in what is likely the best division in the state.
