Prospect Looks To Clinch Share Of East Crown
By BOBBY CHILVER Journal Sports
It hasn't been easy for Prospect boys basketball.
The Knights have escaped some close games and posted some valiant comebacks this season, most recently without leading scorer and point guard Joe LaTulip. But the team has held together and remains a perfect 7-0 in the MSL-East. Tonight they can clinch at least a share of the division title as they head to face rival Buffalo Grove.
Hersey, meanwhile, will look to take care of Elk Grove and remain in the race. They currently trail the Knights by two games but do get to face them in the final match-up of the regular season. Here's a look at tonight's contests (note all games start at 8 p.m. following girls varsity action):
Prospect at Buffalo Grove
Last year the Knights cruised to a 10-0 MSL-East record, playing all around great basketball. This year the Knights have had their fair share of hardships yet remain on pace for another division title.
Tonight will definitely put that perfect record to the test however as the Knights get a stingy BG team at home. The last time these two met was in the MSL opener and Prospect got by thanks to a big game from Mike LaTulip. Now with his brother out, Mike is counted on even more to provide outside scoring and take pressure off of Jack Redding.
Buffalo Grove has been hot and cold this year. They usually keep the game close with tight defense but they need consistent scoring to be successful. Nick Prus is dangerous from the outside while Kevin Mulligan is quick on the fast break.
Hersey at Elk Grove
The Huskies can still earn a share of the conference crown but they probably need to win out and hope for a Prospect loss tonight. Hersey did blow out Elk Grove 50-27 last time they met but these Grens are a completely different team. Donny Duschinsky's return has sparked a much better brand of basketball in Elk Grove and they are consistently competing with some of the best teams in the area. But Hersey is coming off a big win over Buffalo Grove last week and should be motivated to stay in the MSL-East race.
Rolling Meadows at Wheeling
The Mustangs have been playing better basketball of last as well, spurred by Richie Kemph's outside shooting and a more consistent core of players around him.
They should rebound tonight as they had little trouble with Wheeling last time, winning 64-43.
