Fremd Improves To 18-1; Win Boosts Conant
Fremd took care of Barrington and got some help from Conant to clinch at least a share of the MSL-West championship Friday.
It will be their first share of the title since 1998.
The Vikings did their job on Friday with a 51-41 win over Barrington. Zach Monaghan scored 16 points and Quinn Williams added 11 to lead the scoring. Charlie Rosenberg gave Fremd a big inside presence, finishing with 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
The win improved Fremd to 18-1 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in the West.
* Conant also did their part to help the Viking cause, defeating second-place Schaumburg, 53-36.
The Cougars (12-6, 4-3) moved into a tie for second with the win, their fifth straight in the division.
Christian Sotos scored a game-high 18 points as Conant controlled the game most of the way.
Conant continued their hot play Saturday but fell just short in a 47-45 loss to Lake Park in overtime. Taylor Peterson led the team with 10 points but the Cougars couldn't get several shots for the win to fall.
* Palatine led by four at the half but Hoffman Estates used a second half run to win 48-39 Friday. Michael Orris led the Pirates with 13.
