Prospect Holds Lead In MSL-East

Prospect boys basketball just keeps finding ways to win.

After making it a perfect 7-0 in the MSL-East last Friday over Rolling Meadows, the Knights can now clinch at least a share of the division title with a win this week.

Prospect gets that chance at Buffalo Grove Friday and with a win there, could clinch the outright championship next week against Wheeling.

But Rolling Meadows didn't make it easy on the Knights as they erased a 13-point second half deficit to tie the game with about two minutes to go.

Prospect jumped back ahead and Mike LaTulip then jumped up to steal Meadows' last chance. Up by two, LaTulip elevated to steal an inbound pass and get fouled with less than five seconds left in the game. He drained both free throws to seal the victory.

For the game, LaTulip led Prospect with 15 points while Jack Redding scored 13.

Richie Kemph tallied 19 points and Brian Nelms finished with 15 to lead the Mustangs second half comeback.

* Hersey earned a big win of their own Friday, getting past Buffalo Grove 65-60 to stay in the MSL-East race.

For a share of the title, Hersey will need Prospect to lose one of their next two games, then win the season finale against the Knights.

On Friday the Huskies (11-7, 5-2) dominated the glass, led by Justin Jobski's 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Mertes scored a game-high 17 points and hit four free throws late to seal the win.

Jeff Zabrin led the Bison with 14 points while Kevin Mulligan added 13.

* Buffalo Grove (12-9, 4-3) fell again, 65-59, to Zion Benton on Saturday but bounced back to beat Lindblom on Sunday. Nick Prus scored 13 first quarter points to help the Bison cruise 65-41 Sunday as part of the Conference Challenge Classic at Loyola University.

* Elk Grove improved to 3-4 in the East, 6-14 overall, with a 66-36 blowout of Wheeling on Friday.

Donny Duschinsky scored 14 points while John Lorenz added 10 for the Grens. EG took control in the second quarter and led 36-18 at half.

Kevin Kortum led the Wildcats with 11 points, all in the first quarter.
