Standout Swimmers

Two Journal-area grads are making their marks in swimming at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. Maine West High School alum Katie Trella swept distance events at a recent meet with times of 11:36:95 in the 1,000-freestyle and 5:36:42 in the 500-free.

Stevenson grad Michael Gerdov qualified for both the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships.

Soccer Sign-Ups

Registration is now being accepted for Mt. Prospect Park District boys and girls spring soccer. Register through Mar. 7. Practice will begin at the end of March, and the season runs mid-April through mid-June. Games are played on Sunday afternoons. Seven divisions are offered for grades K-8, and teams are formed according to neighborhood zones.

Tops At Triton

Triton College student-athlete Paris Paramore was selected Region IV Division II District A Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 17. The sophomore point guard out of Washington High School in Chicago scored 59 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, shot eight of 16 from three-point range and was 17 of 21 from the free-throw line in Triton wins over Milwaukee Tech, Kennedy-King and College of DuPage.

Improve Softball Skills At Prospect Clinic

The Prospect High School girls softball program will offer an instructional youth clinic for 3rd-8th graders on Sunday, Feb. 21, from 9-11 a.m. in the school's fieldhouse, 801 W. Kensington Rd., Mt. Prospect. High school players and the PHS coaching staff will work in small groups with clinic participants. The clinic's focus will be on hitting and fielding skills and techniques, including slapping, bunting, infield/outfield fundamentals and drills. Payment and registration may be made on the day of the clinic.

MSW 8th Graders Claim Conference Basketball Crown

Mary, Seat of Wisdom School's Eighth Grade Girls Basketball team from Park Ridge captured the City Suburban Catholic Conference title Sunday, Jan. 10 by defeating St. Thecla Catholic School, 31-29 in overtime, at Resurrection High School.
