Knights Finish Wins; Maine West Tops East

Prospect boys swimming and diving finished off the regular season with two strong wins while Maine West notched a big victory over rival Maine East.

The Knights had a strong two days last week as they knocked off Maine West 104-78 on Thursday and Wheeling 106-69 on Friday.

Prospect took all three relays in Thursday's affair with Maine West. Joe Lakner took part in two of the relay wins and added two individual titles on the day.

He was first in the 100 free (52.39) and 100 back (58.47) and was part of winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.

Joining him on the medley squad was Tyler Bengtsen, Brian Kugler and Michael McPartlin while the 400 free team included McPartlin, Edward Martin and Eric Opland. The other winning relay was the 200 free, with Bengtsen, Opland, McPartlin and Decoda Selzer taking part.

Opland added a win in the 200 free (1:57.42) and Martin was first in the 500 free (5:29.66). Richard Stodulski also won the diving event, edging Maine West's Danny Hanns 167.30-163.50.

Brian Wasicak was a double winner for Maine West, taking the 200 IM (2:10.47) and 100 breast (1:05.74).

Prospect showed no signs of tiring the next day as they won their final conference dual over Wheeling. This time the Knights took two of the three relays as Lakner, Bengtsen, Kugler and McPartlin won the 200 medley relay and Selzer, Opland, McPartlin and Bengtsen took the 200 free.

Lakner won two events again, taking the 100 butterfly (57.92) and 100 back (57.32). Bengtsen was first in the 200 free (1:58.05), McPartlin tops in the 100 free (54.50) and Kulger won the 100 breast (1:08.87). Opland outpaced the field in the 500 free (5:24.07) and Stodulski won the diving event again (186.70).

Tim McDaniel won the 200 IM (2:12.29) for Wheeling and Shane McDade was best in the 50 free (23.67). The Wildcat 400 free relay team of McDaniel, McDade, Nick Modlin and Scott Lunardini also earned a victory.

Maine West also responded well to the back-to-back swims, using day two to beat Maine East 112-74 on Friday.

The Warriors won only one relay but made up for it with strong individual efforts.

Wasicak was again a double event winner, placing first in the 200 IM (2:10.56) and 100 breast (1:05.32). Ryan Alderson added a win in the 500 free (5:49.33), Joe Heinz was best in the 200 free (2:02.60) and Matt Boesche took the 100 back (1:05.29).

Maine West's relay win came behind Boesche, AJ Unader, Adam Lietzau and Mike Picchiotti in the 400 free.
