Elk Grove 2nd, Prospect 3rd In MSL

It was Schaumburg last year, it was Schaumburg in this year's Mid Suburban League regular season, and it was Schaumburg on top again last Saturday at the 2010 conference finals in girls bowling.

The Saxons scored 170 points this season to edge the Grens, with 167 points. Elk Grove out-rolled the Saxons on Saturday by seven pins, but the league determines the overall champion by combining Saturday's results with regular season points.

Prospect finished third with 149 points, Hoffman Estates was fourth with 134, Conant was fifth with 124, and Rolling Meadows wrapped up the league's first division this season with 99 points.

Kelly Judge of Schaumburg was the difference-maker on Saturday, rolling a final-game 237 to give her team enough points for the overall title.

Katia Smith of Rolling Meadows had the day's second high series – 1,237. Tedra Tado and Ashley Dolce, both of Elk Grove, had the third and fourth-best series with 1,230 and 1,188, respectively.

Other high-scoring games Saturday were shot by Smith (237), Carina Balan of Hersey and Shannon Hallberg of Conant, (both 236), and Liz Saffold of Hoffman Estates and Ashley Cramer of Palatine (both 235).

For the season, Jodi Gawlik of Schaumburg had the highest average (215.77). Caerlina Williams of Elk Grove was second with 200.44.

All 12 MSL teams will do it again at the Hoffman Estates IHSA sectional, which will be held at 9 am. this Saturday, also at AMF Lanes.

Six other area teams also will participate.

This sectional is one of 12 held Saturday to set up the state finals at Rockford on Feb. 12-13. The top two teams at a sectional, plus the two highest-scoring individuals not on a qualifying team, plus the next six-best scorers in all of the sectionals, will advance to state.

"This will essentially be another conference finals, with only two teams advancing to state," said one MSL coach last week. "The IHSA goes strictly by geography when it sets up its sectionals."
