Sweet Revenge For 7-8 Central All-Stars

By DWIGHT ESAU Journal Sports

Central Little League's two all-star 7-8 year old tournament teams finished their post-season tourney on a high note last Saturday.

In the championship game of the round-robin, four-team event in Des Plaines, Central #1 got some payback from an early loss and defeated Shabbona, 4-0. The pitching of Nathan Holler, Nick Hernandez, and closer Danny Soto (2 innings each) made the difference.

Central put all the runs it needed on the board in the first inning on a solid 3-run home run by Jacob Bellizzi.

"They cruised to victory after that smash." said Tom Ure, one of the Central coaches.

Other players on the Central #1 team were Alex Del Real, Ely Grimmer, Tony Groves, Tyler Gichon, Corion Hudson, Mikey Jekot, Vince Parcelli, and James Thomas. Steve Groves was the manager.

In the third place game, Central All Stars "Too" scored an 8-6 victory over Glenview. Ray Ure, Liam Blackburn, and Max Kloberdanz provided solid pitching performances of two innings each. Michael Paschen fielded a hot grounder and threw out the runner for   the final out, leaving the potentially game-tying Glenview runners stranded.

In playoff games last Thursday to set up the championship matchups, Shabbona easily defeated Central Too, and Central #1 defeated Glenview.
