July 4th Tournaments Across State Give Local Legion Teams Break From Cook County Action
By DWIGHT ESAU Journal Sports
The July 4 holiday and American Legion baseball are strong partners every summer, so this Independence Day weekend will be a busy one for the Journal area's four Legion teams.
Arlington Post 208, on top of the Cook County League with an 8-1-1 record, is at the Moline tournament this weekend, along with the Elk Grove Red Sox. These two teams are likely to meet at Moline. Arlington has won two previous games against the Sox, who are in third place in the county league with a 4-5-1 mark.
Mt. Prospect Post 525, winless in the county league, is at the Waukegan tournament this weekend, along with 24 teams from the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin areas.
Glenview Post 166 dropped two games this week against Northbrook and Arlington by identical 10-8 scores. Against Northbrook, Greg Benz of Glenview homered, and Mike Schroeder and Shawn Michols contributed 2 hits each. Glenview is 6-4-1 heading into this weekend.
Glenview is at a multi-team tournament at Northwestern University this weekend. This event includes area travel teams as well as Legion teams.
