Soccer Club Wraps Up Another Stellar Campaign
By DALE SAILER Special to the Journal
The Glenview Soccer Club concluded another season this past week just the way they have finished most of them over their long history---with a winning record among the best in Northern Illinois youth soccer and posting several championships amongst their 27 teams.
Overall, the club compiled a record of 103-77-44 in combined league play and 133-106-55 across all competition, winning or tying over 64% of their games. Club teams scored 715 goals and relinquished 647 for a positive differential of 68 goals.
The girls competed again in the Illinois Women's Soccer League (IWSL), with 4 of the club's 6 Elite teams again playing in their respective A divisions, the highest level of competition in the league. Two division championships were won. The first was earned by the U8 Elite squad which finished with a 7-1 league record, tying for first with the Trevian Blue unit, but winning the championship tiebreaker by virtue of allowing only 10 goals to the Trevian's 12 over their eight league games. The division championship went along with the squad's title in the Park Ridge Memorial Day Tournament as they finished the spring with an overall record of 11-1 with 61 goals for and only 13 against.
The second IWSL title was won by the U11 Elite team which cruised to their division title with a record of 6-0-2, including four shutouts, and was the only team across the entire club to not lose a single game this spring.
Three other girls' squads earned championship trophies at the Memorial Day tournament in Park Ridge. They were the U10 Select, U12 Elite and U14 Select teams as they posted a combined mark 9-0-3 over the holiday weekend.
On the boys' side, the club's ten teams won or tied 58% of their games while taking home one division title and losing another on a tiebreaker. The U8 Select team took home first place honors in the Young Sportsmen Soccer League (YSSL) Gold 1 division outscoring their competition 44 to 32. Meanwhile, the U11 Elite squad went undefeated at 8-0-1, trampling their foes by a combined score of 47 to 14, but lost the title on a tiebreaker against Mundelein SC, the team they tied 2-2 early in the season.
One other boys' unit claimed a championship this spring as the U12 Elite team went undefeated over the Memorial Day weekend and claimed the Park Ridge crown 3-2 over SkoMor in the championship final.
All in all it was another year of growth for the club, and as it heads into a summer full of camps and clinics, it is excited for the fall campaign which will boast 30 teams and nearly 400 players.
