All-Star, Playoff Time In Elk Grove; Traveler Bats Play Blast Off

Last weekend was all-star weekend in Elk Grove Village's youth baseball league.

All-Star games in several divisions were scheduled at Lions Park fields all day Saturday, June 27.

The Pinto Division for 7-8 year olds held a home run derby at Lions Field #3.

The Bronco Division playoff semifinals were played last week as well, with the Mariners against the Blue Jays and the Astros opposing the Brewers.

The championship and third-place games between the winners and losers of these games was scheduled for Windemere parks East and West at 6 p.m. Monday, June 29.

In recent Bronco games involving the final four, the Jays walloped the Diamondbacks, 18-3; the Astros beat the Orioles, 18-4; and the Mariners beat the Brewers, 10-9.

In the Pony Division playoffs, early leaders were Orioles and Mariners in the A pool, and the Angels and Rays in the B pool.

In the Mustang Division playoffs, early leaders were the Mets in the A pool, the Phillies in the B pool, and the Rays in the C pool.

In the Elk Grove Travelers travel program, teams have achieved the following in area competition so far this season:

*The U14 team took 3rd at the Kirkwood Classic in Missouri, won 2nd at the Fletcher Baseball Classic in Rockford, and placed 4th at the Schaumburg Seminoles Classic.

*The U13 team won the Lombard spring tournament and was runner-up in the "beast" Memorial Day tournament in Elgin.

*The U11 team won the Maddogs Old School wood bat tourney and took 3rd in the Streamwood Spring Fest.

*The U10 team won 3rd place in the Rockford Memorial Weekend Classic.

*The U9 team took 4th in the Winnetka Memorial Day tourney.

*The U8 team won 3rd at the Rockford Memorial Classic.
