The Mt. Prospect Park District Tennis Club is celebrating, winter is over, and the group is "coming outside" with its first 2008 outdoor tournament.
It will take place on May 17 at the Lions Park courts. It will be Monkeyshine doubles in three divisions, with each player having a different partner and different opponents for each round.
Terry Lukasik (847-837-8645) is tournament director.
The Mar. 15 tournament ended the group's indoor season. Jeff Wagner dominated the A-division by winning 29 games, Ken Kuly was second with 27 wins, and Lou Preradovic won 20.
Fay Passley and Stan Lukasik tied for top honors in the A- division with 25 wins; Ziggy Zalewski and Tony Goetter were second with 18. Terry Lukasik topped the B-division with 24 victories, Ken Koeppen had 23, and Louis Anderson and Cheryl Kuly had 20.
Keith Edmonson, club president, reports that the park district is considering resurfacing the Lions Park tennis courts, possibly in 2009 if cost estimates are favorable. Initial estimates put the cost at between $250,000 and $350,000.
Edmonson reports that the courts were last resurfaced in 1990.
