Sharks End Season With Awards Banquet

* The Sharks Wrestling Club recently ended its 2007-08 season with an awards night at Sims Bowl in Des Plaines.

Winning the "Guts" award presented by club co- founders Mike Conrad and Chad Conley was Vince LoBono. The "most improved" award went jointly to James Gaynor and Sanchi Airmed, and Alex Mertes was voted "Most Valuable."

The Sharks are affiliated with the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) and practice at Maine East High School.

* Triton College's baseball team has started out its 2008 season at 22-3 and is in first place in the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) with an 8-0 record.

Starting picher Matt Zicher (Hersey HS) played a major role when a struck out 10 hitters and allowed only 4 hits in a 6-1 Trojan win over Rock Valley. Players from Brother Rice, St. Joseph, Lincoln Way East, Marian Catholic, and St. Rita also have played major roles for the Trojans this spring, along with others from Johnsburg, De La Salle, and Bradley-Bourbonnais.

* All Notre Dame High School alumni baseball players are invited to participate in the annual Notre Dame Alumni Baseball Game on Saturday, May 17 in the baseball stadium at 7655 West Dempster Street in Niles. Registration and pre-Game warm-ups start at 5:30 p.m. Game Time is 7 p.m. sharp. The cost is $20 per player which includes a T-shirt and refreshments. * The Notre Dame High School Wrestling team recently held its awards ceremony honoring outstanding Don wrestlers. The awards given include:

* Palatine High School recently named Leslie Schock its new girls head basketball coach.

Schock takes over the Pirates' girls basketball program after serving as coach for the school's freshman A team for the past four years. She also coached the Palatine's junior varsity squad during the 2003-04 season. Before coming to Palatine High School, she was the freshman A team coach at Larkin High School in Elgin for the 2002-03 season, bringing a total of seven years of coaching experience to her position.

"We are very excited to have Leslie leading our program at Palatine High School," said Athletic Director Jerry Dobbs.

Schock came to Palatine High School as a social studies teacher in 2003, and currently teaches Accelerated Placement (AP) United States History, American Studies, and Senior Survey. She also has served as the head girls lacrosse coach for the program's two years of existence at the school.
