Knights, Mustangs Tied For Division Lead

It's now all tied up atop the Mid-Suburban League East, as Prospect and Rolling Meadows will have one week to decide a champion.

Prospect rallied back from a late deficit Tuesday while Rolling Meadows blew an early lead to put both teams at 8-4 in the Mid Suburban League.

Prospect fell behind early, trailing 8-2 by the third inning. They were still down by three with two outs in the seventh before Tim Scanlan jacked a game-tying 3-run triple to send the game to extras.

In the eighth, the Knights exploded for a 7-spot, keyed by a big Matt Smith 2-run double. Kevin Krohm was solid in five innings of relief, striking out five and walking one, as Prospect earned the win, 16-10.

Meanwhile, Meadows was up by as much as 8-3 but saw Palatine come storming back with a 6-run fifth. Kyle Gaedele hit two home runs and Kevin Serna was 3-for-4 but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs dropped their third in a row after rattling off a ten game win streak.

So after Prospect knocked off Meadows on Monday, that leaves the two all square with less than a week to play in conference. Also in play is the tiebreaker, which Prospect holds because they have beaten Meadows twice.

On Wednesday, both teams' games were postponed. Prospect was scheduled to replay its game with Hersey yesterday (Thursday) while Meadows and Elk Grove will play Saturday as the Mustangs were already scheduled to makeup a game with Conant yesterday.

Prospect is scheduled to play at Wheeling tonight and will have Elk Grove and Buffalo Grove next week to finish the season. Meadows is scheduled for Buffalo Grove today and Wheeling and Hersey next week.

In other Tuesday action:

Elk Grove lost 7-4 to Barrington in a completion of a suspended game. Bronco Bryan Grabowski hit a 3-run bomb in the top of the 11th to put away the Grens.
