They were 23-2 last year and sectional finalists.

They are 15-1-2 this year, holders of a new school team scoring record, their leading scorer is a sophomore, and 16 of their 21 varsity players are underclassmen.

This is the happy situation these days in Glenbrook South girls soccer.

For their latest accomplishment, the Titans went up to Kenosha last weekend, took on two state-ranked Wisconsin teams, and shut them both out, 4-0 and 3-0.

"We have six seniors, one of whom is out for the season with an injury, 11 juniors, and 4 sophomores," said head coach Seong Ha, in his second season at Glenbrook South. "The team this year has really, seriously stepped up its offense. On attack, we usually manage to out-number the defenders, giving us a big edge in the attacking zone."

The Titans have scored 91 goals this season, breaking last year's record of 80.

"We are a young but fairly experienced team, with a lot of good team chemistry," said Ha. "We are unbeaten in our last 12 games, and are peaking at just the right time."

Against Green Bay Southwest last weekend in Kenosha, Jannelle Flaws, a sophomore, scored three times to bring her 2008 team-leading total to 26 goals, equaling her total of last year as a freshman. Her 56 career goals, accomplished in just her sophomore year, already are a school career record. Scoring the other two Titan goals against Southwest was Taylor Lauesen. In goal, Chelsea Watkins had 5 saves to get the Titans' eighth shutout this season.

Against Green Bay Preble in Kenosha, Katelyn Kishkunas, Emily Shaw, and Flaws each scored. And Watkins and Drews shared in the shutout.

In other recent games, the Titans won their own Titan Challenge tournament with three convincing victories, defeated Niles West, 7-0, defeated downstate Charleston, 7 -1, and tied formidable Maine South, 3-3.

Other members of the Titan varsity are seniors Becca Berkowitz, Kathleen Hoogland, captain Sara Wing, Jenna Dickman, and Laura Casey; juniors Bri Oliver, Cari Radziewicz, Jessica Pedraza, Erica Aquino, Mary Snow, Tyeler Matsuo, Stephanie Shanahan; and sophomores Kelly Brait, Melissa Schakowsky, and Jessica Blair.
