St. Viator Maintains Dangerous Look

St. Viator girls soccer continued its hot play this week with a 4-2 come from behind win over Fenwick on Saturday and a 4-0 shutout over Jacobs on Monday.

On Saturday, the Lions were down twice in the first half but answered Fenwick goals each time to enter the break at 2-2. Samantha Gavin knocked in the first goal with assists from Brenna Fitzpatrick and Lauren Cozzi while Taylor Skala forced the 2-2 tie with assists from Fitzpatrick and Kailee Springer.

In the second half, the Lions broke the game open with goals by Jackie Tumberger, assisted by Fitzpatrick and the final tally by Skala, assisted by Andrea DiVito.

The Lion defense was outstanding once again as they dominated play for most of the game, evidenced by a 23-3 shots on goal margin.

Monday it was all Viator as Cozzi knocked in two first half goals for the early lead. She was assisted by Connie Kulczycki and Tumberger.

Then in the second half it was Skala, assisted by Colleen Nolan, knocking in her team-leading 16th goal of the season. Susan Szymczak scored the final goal for the 4-0 win.

The Lions' two wins improved them to 11-4-1 on the season.

Wheeling won a rain-shortened game Friday, 3-1, over Zion-Benton. Val Lelli knocked in two goals and Jessica Peterson added the other as the Wildcats took the win. The game was called with 19 minutes to play in the second half due to the impending harsh weather.

Rolling Meadows tied Dundee-Crown and then beat South Elgin 3-2 Saturday.

The Mustangs tied D-C at 0 as goalkeeper Katie Oden notched 10 saves in the shutout.

Later they knocked off South Elgin with goals from Alex Partipilo, Jessie DaPisa and Liezl Aluquin. Oden had five more saves in the second game.
