Graham, Conant Girls Third At Always-Deep Palatine Relays
Toni Graham and the sprint teams have highlighted Conant's girls track program for the past several years.
Mostly seniors now, Graham and her teammates made another splash last Saturday at the Palatine Relays.
Graham won her second straight Gerald Mclroy Award as the meet's most outstanding female athlete as she led the Cougars to 60 points and third place in the formidable 16-team field.
Graham won the 100 dash (12.0) and 200 dash (career-best 24.7) and anchored the winning Cougar 400 and 800 relays (48.5 and 1:41.8, respectively)
Joining Graham on the victory stand in the relays were Brianna Millar, Emily Quinones, and Destiny Arps. They say they are looking to bring home some state medals in the sprints and relays this spring. They will have their chance to prove that in the upcoming state tournament series that begins May 9.
Wheeling was 10th as a team, led by second place in the long jump relay by Angela Tichelbaut (16-7) and Angie Bacci (17-5).
Defending state champion Barrington, which is threatening to make it two in as row this spring with several recent state-level performances, scored 129 points to win the meet over runner-up Palatine, Conant, and fourth place Hoffman Estates. Mid Suburban League teams again dominated this event.
Finals in both the Mid Suburban and Central Suburban conferences take place this Friday at Hersey and Deerfield, respectively. Then, it's on to IHSA sectionals on May 9 at various area sites.
