Tidbits from the Northwest suburbs

LoGuidice Anchors Waycinden Team

The Waycinden Warriors 13-year-old travel team is off to a great 5-1 start this season.

The team is anchored by a stellar pitching staff, led by Jake LoGuidice. The 6-ft., over 200-lb. eighth grader has given up only one hit in 13 innings of work and struck out about 30 batters. His fastball is rumored to be around the 80 mph mark and he has added in some very effective breaking balls and offspeed pitches to the repertoire.

Behind him is a deep staff of Shane Joyce, Alex Tinkoff, Ben Froman, Mark Monti, Luc DiMaso, John Burkiewicz, Ryan White and Cory Winnecki, giving the Warriors one of the deepest pitching staffs in the division. Wins have come against the Melrose Indians, Highwood Braves, Niles Bandits, Buffalo Grove Gators and Deerfield Warriors.

Their next game is scheduled for Saturday at Friendship Park against the Des Plaines Dawgs.

Fencers Club Hosts Epee Challenge

The Illinois Fencers Club hosted its 5th annual Dominick Epee Challenge at Central Community Center in Mt. Prospect Sunday, Apr. 27.

The event drew competitors for 20 other fencing clubs across the Midwest.

Tim Glass scored the victory of IFC, with Harrison Siegel placing fifth and John Lartz tenth. Glass, along with other IFC members, will be competing in the Summer National Championships, which will be held on San Jose, California from July 1-10.
