Teen Golfers Tee It Up In Evans Tourney

Three Journal-area young amateur golfers were among 32 players who competed recently in the 25th annual Chick Evans Illinois Junior Amateur Championships at the Steeple Chase Golf Club in Mundelein.

Joe Emerich of Palatine, James O'Connor of Prospect Hts., and Brian Sandroff of Buffalo Grove competed in the boys 17-18 match play competition. Sandroff won his first two matches and faced Sumeet Arora in the championship match. Arora prevailed, 2-up.

Emerich and O'Connor lost their round one matches.

In the junior boys (`14-16 years old) competition, no Journal-area player competed in the round of 16. This competition was won by Dusty Koth of Bloomington.

This tournament was sponsored by the Illinois Junior Golf Association, a not-for-profit organization that provides educational programs and playing events for its members.

Junior golfers aged 7-18 are eligible to join the IJGA.
