To get to the series, Golf-Maine first won the NSYBA National Division championship with a 15-1 regular season record and then prevailed as champion in the world series playoffs.
In a two-game world series against the Edgebrook, Red Sox, Golf-Maine won 8-3 and 14-5. In game one, Sebastian Stasiakiewicz pitched one scoreless inning in relief, and Danny Kosinski hurled the final two scoreless innings.
In game two, Golf-Maine jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, and was never headed. Shawn Lopez walloped a 3-run homer, and Sayer Jackson hit a 2-run shot. Paul Kosinski pitched 3 scoreless innings to close out the win.
Most of the G-M players are from unincorporated Maine Township. The team was sponsored by North Maine Firefighters.
Additional players were Rick Brown, Nick Claeys, Case Jackson, Bill Myronyak, Ricky Patel, and Shawn Sulaka. The team wa managed by Mike Yesner, assisted by coaches Art Claeys, Allen Goodman, Mark Jackson, and Derrick Kosinski.
The NSYBA league is for players 13-15 years old and is comprised of teams from Golf-Maine, Skokie, Lincolnwood, and Edgebrook Sauganash Park Districts.
Golf-Maine serves unincorporated Maine Township and parts of the communities of Park Ridge, Niles, and Glenview near Golf Mill Shopping Center.
