Stephens Seeks Funds For Balmoral Ramps, Plaza

While driving south on Interstate 55 to Springfield may not be one of Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens' favorite things to do, he nevertheless does it four to five times a year.

Last week Tuesday, Stephens visited the state capital to meet face-to-face with government leaders to let them know that the village remains interested in securing funding for a number of local projects should dollars become available.

"They were basically courtesy calls to let them know if any money is available for convention center communities or for stimulus projects we want to be in the mix," said Stephens. He met with House Speaker Mike Madigan and Senate leader John Cullerton.

Among the projects Stephens said he wants to see funded involve the Balmoral Avenue extension to O'Hare Airport and construction of Balmoral ramps at the Tri-State Tollway (I-294). In addition, he said he will apply for state funding, if available, for construction of a new outdoor plaza as part of the village's new entertainment district project.

"If there are any park projects for that, we're interested," said Stephens.
