District 78 Tweaks Policies

Rosemont Elementary School Dist. 78 passed a number of policy updates during a recent board meeting to bring the policies in line with state and federal guidelines.

Among those updates were Access to District Public Records and Administrative Procedure — Access to Copying of District Public Records.

"We have to comply to all the new legislations as far as open meetings," said Supt. Kevin Anderson.

That means meeting new standards for time limits and declaring a freedom of public information officer, which is Anderson. Another policy change addressed bullying and harassment in schools.

Anderson said harassment was added to the school's language on bullying because harassment better defines verbal abuse. As part of that policy change, Anderson added language to the school's handbook to notify parents and students that harassment will not be tolerated.  Teacher qualifications were also updated to conform to changing standards.

The board also updated guidelines for supplement instructional services for opportunities of educationally disadvantaged deprived children, called Title I programs, to meet federal guidelines.
