State Late In Paying Leyden

The state of Illinois is almost $1 million behind in paying Leyden High School Dist. 212 aid payments since the start of the school year.

As of this month, Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes' office had $986,000 in outstanding "vouchers" (bills to be paid) from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to Dist. 212 that had not been paid dating back to September.

Dist. 212 CFO Tom Janeteas said the lag in state payments comes as a second financial hit.

The district was already drawing down reserves to cover late property tax revenues collected through Cook County. Janeteas said he feels the district has enough money to cover its bills.

IBSE spokeswoman Mary Ferguson said the state is currently paying bills from last fall.

As of last week, Hynes' office had $600 million in outstanding vouchers for schools across the state with total unpaid bills through all state agencies totaling $3.3 billion.
