Brothers Win 2nd Straight Candy Contest

By DENISE FLEISCHER Lifestyle Editor

For the second year in a row, Johnny and Jimmy Traficanti won Rosemont Park District's Holiday Candy Contest.

"We have these candy contests for children who come into the park district building. We do it for Easter and Christmas and the kids just love it," said Karen Stephens, park director.

Three weeks before the two holidays, a jar is filled in the Rosemont Recreation Center and Margaret J. Lange park district building on Scott Street for children to guess how many pieces of candy there are. The Christmas jar was filled with Reese's peanut butter cups, suckers, Jolly Rancher's and other candies.

"They make their guess, write it down on our sheet, add their name, age and phone number. The winner gets all the candy," Stephens stated. "Well, Johnny guessed right and both boys will get it."

The Traficantis participate in arts and crafts programs and special events at Lange Park. The brothers were there for Santa's arrival when they entered the contest.

"Easter will be the next candy contest. It is also held at the Rosemont Recreation Center."
