Car, Cell Phone Used, Returned During Trip?

A Wisconsin family returning from Mexico found the car they left at a Rosemont hotel rummaged through and the gas nearly drained, according to a Rosemont police report.

The family, from Mukwonago, Wis., reportedly left their silver 2006 Mercury Mountaineer at the Holiday Inn Express, 6600 Mannheim Rd., from Dec. 5-12. A purse containing keys to the car was left in a hotel room. When the family returned they discovered the SUV's front seats laid back, the gas low, the sunroof cracked open, a Chicago radio station on, and a cell phone missing.

Verizon informed them there was $156 in music downloads to the cell phone, 33 text messages sent and four pages worth of calls made to Chicago area numbers.

The first call was made to the phone at 5:47 a.m. Dec. 5 from the main line at the Holiday Inn Express, about 15 minutes after the family left for vacation.

Credit cards and $100 were also taken from a wallet.
