'Fill The Boot' Campaign Raises Over $3,500
Rosemont Public Safety officers recently walked in vehicular traffic, keeping a tight grasp on their boots in order to collect money for muscular dystrophy.
Officers raised $3,508 collecting money through Rosemont's morning rush hour on Friday, June 19 from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Storms cut fundraising short. Officers failed to reach their $5,000 goal because Mother Nature lashed out with a severe microburst storm that saw officers responding to washed out streets rather than walking them for charity.
In the morning about 14 officers were walking the medians at four intersections: River Road at the I-294 ramp, River and Higgins roads, Higgins and Mannheim roads, and Higgins Road and Scott Street.
Last year, Rosemont Chief Dale Torii said Public Safety officers raised between $4,600 and $4,800 in one day for muscular dystrophy through the Fill the Boot campaign.
Torii said the effect of the recession was evident as individual donations were down from last year with a lot more drivers offering coins rather than dollars this year.
Public Safety officers have been raising money for muscular dystrophy research through the Fill the Boot campaign for the last eight years.
